Arrived and Home stay
I arrived in vancouver, waiting for a long time. For the first time in Vancouver, it was a shallow rain that greeted me. In summer vancouver, rain is very rare, but it seems to be fortunate to have met rain from first time. By picking up a Korean agent from the airport, I arrived at a homestay house in Vancouver for two months. The homestay host was Filipinos. The homestay members are 3 Korean, 1 Japanese, 1 Mexican, 1 Vietnamese, 2 Chinese and a total of 10 people. Room size is big enough to live alone. The meal is prepared by host. Breakfast is cereal, lunch is sandwich, dinner is rice and one sidedish.
Canada Day(Birthday of Canada)
July 1st is Canada's birthday, and people celebrate Canada Day as a big event. I can enjoy street performances, street food, body painting, fireworks, etc. in the Canada Place. first, First, I took a bus and a sky train to Canada Place that located in Vancouver Downtown. In downtown there is Gastown, which is famous for the movie scene of Twice's song "Rikey". After looking around, I ate dinner and waited to see the fireworks. I heard Canadian fireworks are boring and not funny, but it was meaningful and cool enough. And it was fascinating to see Canadians celebrate Birthday of Canada every year. And that was really fascinated that Canadians held several events to celebrate Canada's birthday every year.
Language Training
First of all, we will take a month of language training before my internship. I got a language training at Cornerstone College, and I did a level test on the first day. Then I go to school from the next day. there are about 10 to 15 students in one class, and students come from Korea, Japan, China, Turkey, Brazil and Mexico, etc. Classes are taught in many ways, such as grammar, speaking, listening and so on. In case of my class, students make a presentation once a month. Classes are held from 9:30 to 3:00.
Granville Island
Granville is an island located at the bottom of the granville bridge connecting downtown and west broadway street. The public market, aquatic restaurants and high-rise buildings are famous. In the public market, it sells fruits, vegetables, chocolates, breads and many other things like the Korean traditional market, and it is possible to buy food codes and eat them outside the market. In the street, people perform street performances. The Granville Brewing is also famous, but I did not drink beer and bought it home and drank it.
Almost of place that I have traveled is place that where I went after school. But I traveled place that far from downtown in weekend
English Bay and Sunset Beach
English Bay and Sunset Beach are almost connected beaches. Sunset Beach also operates a ferry to the other island. I arrived at about 4 o'clock after finishing school. Despite being on weekdays and at 4 pm, there were a lot of people on the beach. Many people were tanning, reading, playing volleyball with friends, or taking a walk. Seeing this, I felt Canadians enjoy the sunny weather and leisure.
Deep Cove and Quarry Rock
Deep Cove is a silence beach located on the eastern edge of North Vancouver.
In summer season, there is a many people that enjoy variety of summer sports. And so We can lent a kayak and enjoy kayaking. Also, if we climb about 1 hour along the trail, we can go to Quarry Rock. it is the most highest place in Deep Cove than we can get a great view.
Latin Festivals
Vancouver is often held several festivals as there are people from several countries. This year;s Latin festival was held on July 7 and 8 for two days. At the festival, you were able to buy a variety of Latin food, and enjoy a Latin show on stage. In addition, Vancouver has a fireworks festival every year, and this year, our country also participates. So I will go to this festival on August 4th.
Meetup
I feel that 'meetup' is one of the big differences between Canada and Korea. 'Meetup' is a cell phone application which finds a club that you want join. 'meetup' has various clubs based on hobbies, interests and so on, And you can easily join this clubs. In my case, I participated in a 'English Conversation Club' to improve my English skill and "Big Data Club" to get knowledge about Big Data. But my English skills are bad that it is hard to understand.
Grouse Mountain
Grouse Mountain is one of the highest mountains in Vancouver and is a beautiful mountain of 1,250 meters above sea level. You can ride a large gondola or hike to the summit. At the summit, you can see Stanley Park and Vancouver at the same time. And here you can see two live bears. I hiked on a hiking trail, but unlike a Korean trail, there is only slope road. So it was really hard. It is also a crowed place for people to enjoy hiking in summer and snowboarding or sking in the winter.
